Check this game out: Slender

What a delightful little indie title. This game has been growing in popularity in the past month or so and for good reason. Besides the Amnesia series, I can't think of a single modern horror game that comes remotely close to what Slender achieves in regards to its tension and sense of unease.

So what kind of game is Slender exactly? Well, it takes place in a first-person perspective and the only thing at your disposal is one measly flashlight. Your goal is to collect eight pages scattered across a dark forest that make note of the Slender Man, a figure that is following you pretty much the entire length of your escapade. With each page you obtain, the music, sound effects and tension ramp up, and the Slender Man starts honing in on you at a quicker pace.

As someone who doesn't scare easily at all (sweet brag, right?), the atmosphere is really quite fantastic. You never actually see the Slender Man physically move, but turning around to see his figure standing behind you from a distance is pretty startling. The way the music and sound effects compliment the eerie tone is spot-on as well, further reinforcing the fact that you are completely alone in this daring venture of yours.

It's a good example of the "less is more" mantra, as the nearly pitch black setting and minimalist approach to horror are used to to great effect. It's definitely an experience that will stick with you after you play it, whether you "enjoy" the tense atmosphere or not.

If this sounds like a game right up your alley, you can download Slender for free in this lovely little link right here. I highly recommend at least giving it a try.
