Being a big fan of the Half-life series, the never-ending wait for Half-life 3, or even Episode 3 for that matter, has been pretty excruciating. And the cliffhanger ending of Episode 2 has just made the prolonged delay of the project all the more disheartening.
But it seems like there is actually a reason as to why Valve hasn't wrapped up the Half-life story arch, besides just merely being cruel. Gabe Newell, the managing director of the company, recently talked with Seven Day Cooldown in regards to what may be Half-life 3.
When asked about the long-awaited and much anticipated release of "Ricochet 2", a sequel to the relatively simple $5 title on steam and an obvious reference to Half-Life 3, Newell laughed and said the following:
"In terms of Ricochet 2, we always have this problem that when we talk about things too far in advance," Newell said. "We end up changing our minds as we're going through and developing stuff, so as we're thinking through the giant story arc which is Ricochet 2, you might get to a point where you're saying something is surprising us in a positive way and something is surprising us in a negative way, and, you know, we'd like to be super transparent about the future of Ricochet 2."
Along with this, he mentioned that it's far better to leave fans in the dark than have them driven crazy over the many changes that the title has been going through since inception.
Despite wanting Half-life 3 to be announced already, I'd much rather have Valve take their time with the game than release a product that they're not fully satisfied with.
