Now, I know many fans may cry foul at this development, but it actually looks and sounds pretty interesting. This four-on-four mode has players making their way through large, multi-level arenas slicing up adversaries with various blades and hammers. You can choose between red-painted Spartans or blue-painted Greeks and even which deity you would like to follow (Hades, Ares, Zeus, or Poseidon). There's also some light RPG elements and equipment customization that ranges from various different weapons, perks, and abilities to choose from, which all sounds quite intriguing.
The presentation looks pretty fantastic from what they've shown. Amongst all the hacking and slashing between players, a huge chained up Titan Cyclops was thrashing about near the center of the level, with the objective of this map consisting of taking over this specific point before your opponents do. After capturing the area, one player was awarded with a special weapon called the Javelin of Olympus to end this creature's life.
As with any God of War game, what follows is a very gruesome and impressive display of carnage. The look in the Titan's eye as it was on the verge of death was quite amazing, with the pupil dilating and the sclera (white portion of the eyeball) changing color just before the finishing blow. The attention to detail, especially in regards to this behemoth, was a step above many other games out there. And more importantly, it all looked very God of War-like. Check out the gameplay footage from GamesRadar below to see all of this horrifically impressive violence for yourself.
Oh, and game director Todd Pappy acknowledged that Kratos was "an asshole in God of War I and II" and that they plan on fleshing out his character much more in this earliest prequel to the series. Thank the Gods for that........ugh I'm sorry......just go ahead and look at these new screenshots underneath these words.....larger images available here. The game is currently set to be released sometime in 2013.
